Abstract

OLIVEIRA, Márcio de; PEIXOTO, Reginaldo; MAIO, Eliane Rose  and  LEITE, Lucimar da Luz. “Screams, shots, blood and a lot of fear” - violence against LGBTQIA people and the educational process. Educação. Santa Maria [online]. 2021, vol.46, e45264.  Epub Nov 29, 2023. ISSN 1984-6444.  https://doi.org/10.5902/1984644445264.

Considering the cases of violence and death against LGBTQIA people that have happened in Brazil, this work, written through bibliographic and documentary research, aims to discuss odious expressions against the LGBTQIA community and how it interferes in social relations, focusing on the educational area. To achieve the goal, the manuscript turns its attention to a particular phenomenon, which is the attack on a nightclub in Orlando/USA, in 2016. To do so, we seek support in gender and feminist studies, in particular, in the authors Saffioti (2013), hooks (2017), Butler (2015), Louro (2008a; 2008b), Meyer (2009), Junqueira (2010; 2015; 2018) among others. Based on the data, we believe that it is necessary for governmental spheres to organize specific public policies to combat LGBTQIAphobia and implement them, with fundamental actions by various social movements that seek to combat violence against this population; along with that, it is to base the democratic and scientific teaching work in order to contribute in the fight against all forms of violence, so that the educational process is part of an ethical and preventive formation, of recognition of differences, of acceptance.
