This research aimed to know the origin of the knowledge mobilized by people who perform the function of class assistant and their influence in the construction of the professional "non-place". This is a qualitative, exploratory investigation carried out in the municipalities of Itapetinga and Amargosa, in Bahia, with people who work in Early Childhood Education classrooms as class assistants. In 2020, interviews were carried out via digital platforms with seven employees. It was found that there are several sources for the origin of the assistants' knowledge, including life stories, personal and daily experiences, academic-professional training and work practice itself. Also that the care-education binomial is the responsibility of the teacher, historically and legally legitimized and that there are many differences in the role of teacher and assistant. Thus, all this has pointed to the construction of a professional “non-place” for class assistants.
