This article discusses some of the findngs of Franzoi (1991) that followed a strong tendency that, in the 1980s, joined theorists around the work world, especially in the education field. With this in mind, the research was made in a metal-mechanic factory in Rio Grande do Sul State, which has adopted the labor management Japanese Model. This Model involves the nature of the workers’ knowledge in both shop floor and at the production line. The purpose of this work was to investigate how that Model deals with the workers’ knowledge, emphasizing that a complete separation between conception and execution is impossible, and pointing out that as the workers get involved in the process of production, they acquire knowledge which belongs only to themselves.
