INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Scope and policies

Educar em Revista publishes original articles on education. Its purpose is to address current and significant issues to understand educational phenomena, and it accepts papers related to the field of Education with the following requirements:

I - Articles should not have been published in other journals or meeting proceedings.

II - They should be written in one of the following languages: Portuguese, English, Spanish, French, German, or Italian.

III - They should have up to three (3) authors:
a) For a single author, the author should have a PhD title.
b) If there are coauthors, one (1) of the authors can be a doctoral student, and the other authors must have a PhD degree.
c) Articles by graduates and masters will not be accepted by the journal.

IV - They should contain results of investigation in Education, explicitly showing the objectives, procedures and analyses and should not be just a report of experiences or literature review.

V - They should follow the formal aspects described in the Guidelines for authors.

VI. At submission, articles should not be identified with the names of the authors in the original text. The author(s) of the manuscript should include their full names exclusively on the field provided in the submission system, and they must also inform their education level, their ORCID ID, their affiliation, link to their CV (lattes for Brazilian authors) and a summary of their biography.

VII. The author is exclusively responsible for the opinions and perspectives expressed in the text, as well as for the accuracy and validity of the citations.

VIII. Since 1st August 2019, due to the internationalization policy, we recommend that articles by Brazilian authors submitted to the journal - to the continuous demand section - if approved, be translated into a foreign language (which could be English, Spanish, French, Italian or German). Any costs associated with translation and its respective proofreading will be the responsibility of the author(s). Educar em Revista will publish both versions of the text (in Portuguese and in the foreign language chosen by the author). The translated text should include the credits of the person in charge of the translation (name and e-mail address).

IX. If the manuscript is approved, the author will be exclusively responsible for the proofreading and formatting services. A proof of the provision of these services must be presented to Educar em Revista.  The Journal may suggest registered professionals who provide manuscript proofreading and formatting services. Exceptional cases will be evaluated by the editorial board.

X. Papers submitted simultaneously to other national or international journals will not be accepted.

Manuscripts that do not meet the editorial requirements of the Journal will be returned to the author(s). This will include papers that do not address a key issue in education; that do not present significant contributions to the analysis of the addressed theme. Regarding the articles, the following manuscripts will also be rejected: manuscripts that are merely descriptive, without conducting a theoretical or methodological analysis of the issue addressed; reports of experience or fragments of dissertations and theses; manuscripts that do not present empirical elements or arguments that are sufficiently developed to support their analyses and conclusions.

The Editorial Board can decide to publish the article, document, or interview to order, with the purpose of contributing to a more pressing debate in the field. This article or document will be evaluated by the Editorial Board.

Ethics policy:

Educar em Revista is committed to the ethical issues related to published documents and their review process, including the management of manuscripts, involving editors, reviewers, and authors. In this sense, the Journal distinguishes itself for its respect for ethical conduct, following the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics - COPE.

The purpose of the journal is to promote the expansion of open science practices, with authors stating in their manuscripts the sources, methods and analytical treatment used to produce their results. The journal is engaged in a constant dialogue with authors, reviewers, and readers, responding to the need for revisions or clarifications.

Editors are attentive and intervene in the editorial process if there is a conflict of interest by reviewers or the editorial team.

The decision on whether to publish an article is based on principles of ethics in research and dissemination of information, in compliance with current regulations and good conduct in academic culture.

The identity of authors and reviewers will remain anonymous throughout the editorial process and after its completion.

Authors are fully responsible for the published texts.

Educar em Revista protects its editorial process from commercial or financial interests.

Ethical decisions and procedures are based on the following documents:

Areas of interest: Education (Foundations of Education, Educational Administration, Educational Planning and Evaluation, Educational Policy, Teaching-Learning, Learning Assessment, Curriculum, Specific Topics in Education).

Peer review: Submitted papers will be sent to two ad hoc reviewers who have a national or international PhD title and a recognized production in the field of assessment. The names of the authors and reviewers will remain anonymous throughout the communication process in the Electronic Journals System. The aspects that guide the assessment of the original papers sent to the peers for review are text structure organization, command of scientific literature, text production that is fluent, cohesive, and suitable for academic writing, in addition to general issues related to the object of the study and the theories and methods presented in the article.

The review report is a brief text with remarks on the submitted paper that is entered in the system. The review report should say
a) Accepted; b) Mandatory corrections; c) Submit again for evaluation; d) Submit to another journal; e) Reject; f) See comments. If the reports are divergent, the article will be sent to a third reviewer.

The journal annually publishes the names of its ad hoc reviewers.

Journal audience: Researchers in education and related fields, teachers from different levels of education, graduate, and undergraduate students.

Archiving: Educar em Revista adopts the LOCKSS system, a free software developed by the Stanford University Library, which allows to preserve online journals chosen when examining their pages for recently published content and filing it. Each file is frequently validated against copies by other libraries. In case the content is damaged or lost, copies will be used for restoring.

Charge for submission and publishing: Educar em Revista has no charge for texts submitted to evaluation by its reviewers, as well as it has no payment for the process of publication (review, formatting, printing and distribution). Because this is a periodical of free access, there is also no charge for accessing or downloading.
