INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

 

Instructions to authors

Registration in the system and subsequent access, through login and password, are mandatory for the submission of works, as well as to monitor the ongoing editorial process.

“Jornal de Políticas Educacionais” accepts works that discuss topics related to educational policy, educational and school planning and management, education and school financing, educational evaluation, comparative studies in educational policy, epistemology of educational policy, among other topics related to the field of educational policy and management.

Before the submission, the author(s) must fill in all the identification Fields, including ORCID and biography to inform titration, institution in which attended the last training, working place, city, and State of residence.

Submission must be made by address (https://revistas.ufpr.br/jpe), using the JPE TEMPLATE (https://revistas.ufpr.br/jpe/about/editorialPolicies#custom-1)

Articles must be unpublished and forwarded after proofreading in Portuguese and foreign languages (abstract and summary). Translations made by an online translator will not be accepted. Articles in Portuguese, English or Spanish are accepted. The linguistic revision is the sole responsibility of the author(s).

The text of the article must comply with the ethical principles indicated in the Document Ethics and Research in Education. (http://www.anped.org.br/news/comissao-da-anped-apresenta-documento-etica-e-pesquisa-em-educacao-subsidios).

"Jornal de Política Educacionais”reserves the right to not publish work(s) by the same author(s) within a year between the publication of texts written by the same author and the beginning of a new submission process, except in special numbers.

 

Formatting rules for articles, reviews, translations

The submission must be made through the following address (https://revistas.ufpr.br/jpe), using this TEMPLATE .

  • The files for submission should be in Microsoft Word format (.doc, Compatibility Mode).
  • Each article must have between 30,000 and 45,000 characters (with spaces), including abstract, resumen, references, illustrations, graphs, maps and tables.
  • Title in bold, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, Cambria font, size 14, with the first letter of the sentence in capital letters.
  • The abstract should contain a maximum of 230 (two hundred and thirty) words and three to five keywords, in Cambria font, size 10, single space and should be presented in Portuguese, English and Spanish. Translations made by an online translator will not be accepted. The abstract must clearly explain the purpose, methodology and conclusions of the article.
  • The body of the text must be presented in Cambria font, size 12, spacing 1.5, A4 paper, margins of 2.5 cm, pagination in the lower right corner.
  • Footnotes should be used for necessary clarifications and all highlights in the text should be made in italics (bold will only be used in the title, subtitles and references).
  • The authors mentioned in the article must be cited between parentheses in the body of the text, with the year of publication of the work and, when applicable, with the cited page(s). Ex.: (CALKINS, 1950, p.161). References must follow ABNT standards.
  • It is mandatory to remove any authorship identification and the Properties option in Word, thus guaranteeing the journal's secrecy criteria, to ensure blind peer review. Articles with any identification will not be accepted for the evaluation process.

The title of the work in Portuguese, English and Spanish must be sent in a separate file (model) submitted as a supplementary document. In case of research funding, the funding institution must be mentioned in a footnote linked to the title in Portuguese. Full name(s) of author(s). In addition to Title/area information. Institutional binding. City, State. Country. Orcid and Email. In the case of several authors, they must inform in the order of precedence.

The reviews may have a maximum of 5 (five) pages and the title will be the complete bibliographical reference of the reviewed work. Ex.: BOURDIEU, Pierre. The scientific craft: science of science and reflexivity. Barcelona: Anagrama, 2003. Keywords and abstract are not required. The review must be carried out by third parties, never by the researcher, author or co-author of the reviewed work.

Translations must be accompanied by authorization from the author and the original text. A letter authorizing its publication must be submitted as a complementary document to the editor of the “Jornal de Políticas Educacionais”.

 

Rules for submitting Thematic Dossiers

The submission of Thematic Dossiers must observe the following guidelines:

  • The theme of the proposal must follow the scope of the journal.
  • Proponents must send a proposal to the editors by email (jpe@ufpr.br) containing justification and indication of at least six articles to be published (title, abstract and authors).
  • The dossiers must have between 6 and 8 articles, two of which must be by authors linked to foreign institutions. Articles by foreign authors may be co-authored with Brazilians.
  • The articles that make up the dossier must follow the submission criteria and be sent according to the template.
  • At the discretion of the organizers, a broad call for publication in the respective thematic section may be made.

 

Article evaluation process

The texts received will be forwarded to 2 (two) ad hoc reviewers. In case of divergent opinions, it will be sent to a third evaluator. Only texts that comply with the rules will be appreciated.

The "Jornal de Políticas Educacionais" adopts the following evaluation policy:

1 - Record of the paper or review submitted via online system.

2 - Evaluation, by the Editorial Team, regarding the paper or review pertinence in relation to the journal editorial line and scope.

Preliminary evaluation criteria:

a) The paper must present an original contribution to the research field;

b) The paper or review must necessarily fit at editorial line: the paper theme or the book reviewed theme must be related to educational policy; the material has the potential to serve as a reference for other studies and researches;

c) Linguistic accuracy;

d) The product should be elaborated according the ABNT or APA rules for citation, bibliographic references, summary, among others;

e) Evidence that the material is compliance with ethical standards in the research, preferably explicitly, by indicating approval by the Ethics Committee, when applicable.

3 – Double blind peer review.

4 - Analysis and confrontation of opinions:

4.1 - Papers or reviews with favourable opinions are forwarded to the Editorial Team, which will forward to the author/s the opinions and requests for corrections indicated by the referees and by the Editorial Team.

4.2 - Papers or reviews with a favourable opinion and another contrary are forwarded to a third reviewer.

4.3 - Articles with two contrary opinions will be rejected.

4.4 - Final acceptance and paper´s scheduling of publication will occur only after receiving the reformulated text.

After final acceptance, the articles are sent for final review of the Portuguese language, preparation of abstracts and standardization.

4.5 - The articles submitted are evaluated by academic peers, who are guaranteed anonymity (double blind peer review).

4.6 - The journal uses iThenticate - Similarity Crosscheck (plagiarism control system). The papers are submitted to this plagiarism control software during the evaluation process.

4.7 - The "Jornal de Políticas Educacionais" is published with resources from the Educational Policy Research Center and there is no charge for processing or publishing papers (no submission charges).

The evaluation of papers submitted to the “Jornal de Políticas Educacionais” follows the main criteria adopted:

  • Adequacy of the theme to the journal's scope, newsworthiness/originality and contribution to the area.
  • Presentation of the Abstract containing objective, methodological procedure and result(s).
  • Clarity in the introduction of the article, presentation of the object, objectives and structure of the article.
  • Coherence and cohesion in the structure of the text, considering the theoretical-methodological procedure and the announced objective.
  • Theoretical consistency and conceptual and argumentative rigor.
  • Final conclusions of what is presented in the objectives and in the theoretical-methodological procedure.
  • Quality of writing and adequacy of the text to the standards of the Portuguese language.

Acceptance of material for publication implies the transfer of copyright to the journal. To “Jornal de Políticas Educacionais” is guaranteed the right to disseminate information and editorial rights, in accordance with the Law.

 

Privacy policies

The names and addresses informed in this academic journal will be used exclusively for the services provided by this publication, and will not be made available for other purposes or to third parties.
