INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Guidelines for authors

The journal Linguagens, Educação e Sociedade (LES) publishes unpublished dossiers, articles, reviews and interviews, written in Portuguese, English, Italian, French or Spanish, whose authors are professors and researchers with a postgraduate degree in education, in accordance with the journal's editorial standards.

The journal requires a minimum degree of a PhD for authors interested in submitting articles. In the case of co-authorship, at least one of the authors must hold such a degree. The submission of articles is limited to one article as author or co-author within a period of 02 (two) years.

The papers must be sent through the Electronic System for Journal Editing (SEER), to the address: <https://periodicos.ufpi.br/index.php/lingedusoc/about/submissions>. Articles must be submitted directly on the journal's website using the available template in Word for Windows format.

The text must contain between 20 and 30 pages, including references, abstract, and resumen. The structure of the article, the abstract, direct and indirect citations, references, images, charts, and tables must comply with the current ABNT standards. For reviews, the number of pages should be between five and eight, including references and notes, and up to ten pages for interviews.

During the submission of the text, the author must send two files in Word format: 1) the complete text file with the authors' identification; and 2) another file without identification, which will be sent to the reviewers, maintaining the authors' anonymity. Acceptance of more than three authors is only allowed with justification.

For the submission of works to the Revista Linguagens, Educação e Sociedade, it is essential that users register in the journal's system and correctly fill in all fields. Incomplete registration or missing metadata during the submission process will result in the rejection of the article, as it compromises the indexing process of the texts in databases.

The metadata (the term “metadata” refers to filling in some fields when submitting the document) must be filled in with the name(s) of the author(s), institution to which they belong, e-mail, address postal address, telephone(s) of the author(s) and titles of the article and abstracts in the original language of the article, in Spanish and in English. The author must also make a brief description in the biography item, which will be included at the end of the article. It is mandatory to insert the author's ORCID in the submission form.

Articles must follow the provisions of NBR 6022 and NBR 6028 of ABNT, current version, with the following structure: title, authorship (author's name, institutional affiliation, qualification, e-mail, ORCID); abstract, keywords, abstract, keywords, resume, palabras clave; text (introduction, development and conclusion) and post-textual elements: references, appendices and annexes. References and citations must follow the specific rules of ABNT, in force, according to the model available on the website: Template. Submitted manuscripts conform to the journal's template standards and will be archived.

The abstract (approximately 250 words) should summarize the theme, objective(s), problem, theoretical references, methodology, result(s) and conclusions of the article.

For citations, organizations and references, collaborators must observe the current ABNT rules. In the case of direct quotations, the use of the author, date and page system is recommended, and in the case of indirect citations, the author-date system. Citations of up to three lines must be incorporated into the paragraph and enclosed in quotation marks. Citations longer than three lines must be presented in a specific paragraph, indented 4 cm from the left margin, with font size 10 and simple spacing between lines.

Author mentions in the text must comply with the ABNT Technical Standards ─ NBR 10520, July 2023. Examples:

In this case,
[...] it is no longer possible to claim that pedagogical work is limited to teaching work in schools. Pedagogical action is not confined to teaching actions, so that while all teaching work is pedagogical work, not all pedagogical work is teaching work (Libâneo, 1999, p. 09).

References cited in the text should be listed in a specific item at the end of the paper, in alphabetical order, according to the ABNT/ NBR 6023 norms in effect.

  2. The content of each text is the sole responsibility of its respective author(s).
  3. The signed texts are the sole responsibility of their authors.

Submission conditions

As part of the submission process, authors are required to verify the compliance of their submission with all the items listed below. Submissions that do not comply with the guidelines will be returned to the authors.

  • When registering, click on your login located in the upper right corner of the screen. Then, select PROFILE and fill in the fields for URL (link to your Lattes profile), a brief bio (3 to 5 lines), and, most importantly, create or associate your ORCID.
  • The contribution is original and unpublished and is not under consideration for publication by another journal; otherwise, it must be justified in "Comments to the editor."
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice, or RTF format.
  • Where available, URLs for references have been provided.
  • The text is 1.5 line-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics instead of underlining (except for URLs); figures and tables are inserted within the text, not at the end of the document as attachments.
  • The text adheres to the style standards and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines on the About the Journal page.
  • The article is the sole responsibility of the authors, and all authors are equally responsible for the content published.

Peer review process

The evaluation of submitted manuscripts will be carried out in three phases, using the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. The first phase aims to analyze whether the manuscripts align with the journal's scope and focus and comply with submission guidelines, formatting, and author anonymity, as outlined in the Author Guidelines section. This phase will be conducted by the editor-in-chief or section editors.

In the second phase, the texts will be submitted to a plagiarism and self-plagiarism control program to assess the originality of the text. In the third phase, the manuscripts will be sent, without identification, respecting the double-blind peer review system, to at least two reviewers appointed by the section editors or the editor-in-chief. In case of disagreement between the two reviews, the work will be forwarded to a third reviewer.

After this phase of the evaluation process, authors will be notified upon receiving the ad hoc reviews. The decision of the section editors or the editor-in-chief may result in three situations: 1) Accept (the manuscript can be published as presented); 2) Mandatory revisions (when the manuscript requires revisions, whether minor or more substantial, involving, for example, issues of form or content, missing references, or unclear passages); 3) Reject (this decision is indicated for manuscripts that require extensive modifications to become publishable, i.e., when the necessary changes are complex or substantial).

Manuscripts accepted for publication must strictly comply with the guidelines for submission. It is the responsibility of the section editors or the editor-in-chief to condition the approval of manuscripts for publication on the modifications specified in the reviewers' reports.

Works sent for revisions must be returned within the deadline set by the editor; otherwise, they will be archived. Changes made to the text must be highlighted for verification by the reviewers, who will check whether the requested revisions have been addressed, making the final decision on whether to publish the article.
