Abstract

AIRES, Joanez Aparecida. Are curriculum integration and interdisciplinarity synonyms?. Educ. Real. [online]. 2011, vol.36, n.01, pp.215-230. ISSN 0100-3143.

The purpose of this article is to discuss the hypothesis that interdisciplinarity and curriculum integration are not synonyms. To reach this goal, we made a brief revision of those concepts, finding support mainly in Japiassu (1976), Santomé (1998), Beane (1997), Jantsch and Bianchetti (1995), and others. Then some differences between those expressions were highlighted to argue that they are not synonyms not only because each one of them encompasses diverse concepts of curriculum integration and interdisciplinarity, but also because each presents distinct comprehensions of what a school subject is. We consider that such reflection can point to elements that can provide a better comprehension of the curriculum organization in schools.

Keywords : Curriculum Integration; Interdisciplinarity; School Subject; Science Subjects.
