Abstract
KLEIN, Madalena. Shifts in the political rational for professional education for the deaf: from control of deviation of the species to tolerance and respect for diversity. Perspectiva [online]. 2006, vol.24, n.03, pp.101-117. ISSN 0102-5473.
Professional education of the deaf is analyzed in this article based on a look at the policies of professional training involved in different times and spaces, using as a reference actions undertaken in schools and by deaf movements. The article discusses the argument that these programs serve a political rationale that points in the direction of the conduct of the subjects involved. An analysis of documents indicates that the emphasis on the control of the challenge of the species - abnormal deaf - revealed by the practices and the discourses of rehabilitation in professional training, has been shifted toward tolerance and respect for diversity, with deaf people being considered as a minority linguistic group.
