In an environment characterized by the information society, network logic, and the social disruptions arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, international scientific collaboration has undergone notable growth. Within this context, the Euro-American Interuniversity Network for Research on Media Literacy for Citizenship (Red Alfamed), established in 2014, emerges as a pivotal entity for the advancement of the field that integrates education and communication. Its presence in 19 countries fosters a global community of researchers who collaborate to cultivate a citizenship capable of addressing the emergent challenges of the media ecosystem in a critical, creative, and ethical manner. Consequently, this article delves into the significance and benefits of this type of academic structure, analyzing the contributions of Red Alfamed as a model of internationalization. To this end, a detailed review of its extension projects and initiatives is presented.
