The classical professional grievance and supposition that all educational enterprises are not as effective as expected is analyzed thanks to the use of conceptual tools of psychoanalysis. The radically impossible nature of current, educational goals derives from the narcissism inherent to the modem idea of the child and to the hegemonic (psycho)pedagogical discourse which is unaware of such a constitutive impossibility. It acknowledges the impasse intrinsic to any educational enterprise which aspires to "prepare for the future". A conclusion is reached whereby it is necessary to object to the methodological illusion since it makes the very temporality of educational development impossible.
