Abstract

KUHN, Malcus Cassiano  and  BRITTO, Silvio Luiz Martins. Wacht und Weide in Kirche und Schule magazine: knowing at teach and to teach geometry. Rev. Diálogo Educ. [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.70, pp.1316-1349.  Epub Apr 20, 2024. ISSN 1981-416X.  https://doi.org/10.7213/1981-416x.21.070.ao03.

The article analyzes the technical magazine Wacht und Weide in Kirche und Schule and aims to investigate knowledge at teach and to teach geometry in Lutheran parochial schools in Rio Grande do Sul from the last century, from the issues of the periodical. The magazine was edited for Lutheran pastors and parochial teachers by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brazil, through the Concord Publishing House of Porto Alegre, from 1936 to 1939. With a qualitative approach and analysis of documentary sources, the investigation has a methodological support in the historical research and in the concept of school culture, for analysis of the 17 editions of the magazine. It was the editors' wish that Lutheran pastors and parochial teachers were able to give a Christian education, with an experience of spirituality in practice and an educational action to serve the world, and, therefore, the approach of theological and pedagogical themes in their editions. How to teach geometry were identified: linear, superficial and volumetric measurements; scale measures; square, rectangle, trapezoid, triangle and circle area; circumference length; cube volume, rectangular prism, cylinder and cone trunk. And as knowledge to teach geometry stand out: estimation and measurement activities with folding ruler and measuring tape, exploring the school's internal and external environment and analyzing real situations. Given the above, it is highlighted that to teach the knowledge related to measures, areas and volume, it is suggested the active involvement of students, with practical activities and use of concrete materials and contextualized situations, to understand the geometric knowledge.
