Abstract

SCHMIDT, Maria Auxiliadora. Status and the construction of the regulation code of the didactic of history. Perspectiva [online]. 2006, vol.24, n.02, pp.709-729. ISSN 0102-5473.

Studies and research that analyze manuals have been conducted from a variety of perspectives. This project falls into this research tradition and is based on the presupposition of the existence of a Didactic of History as a school subject produced within teacher training courses. The paper thus seeks to understand the construction of their “subject code” at a given moment of Brazilian society. The concept of a “subject code” (FERNANDEZ CUESTA, 1998) emphasizes the importance of manuals as basic elements in the construction of school subjects, and allows understanding them in relation to the modes of educating in the society in which they were produced. The period analyzed extends from the 1940’s - 1970’s and shows the State occupying a prominent place in the production of manuals aimed at the training of History teachers. They were published principally by INEP and CADES. Most of these manuals were produced by teachers who taught courses related to teaching History in teacher training schools (teaching colleges and Normal schools), which is an indication of the existence of the teaching of History as a school subject and of the historic modes of education in the period analyzed.
