Brazil nowadays faces two challenges in secondary school: the fast increasing of enrollment and its reorganization based in the National Curriculum Guidelines. As we can do almost nothing without money, how much will it cost to have an answer to both challenges? Contributing to answer this question, this research calculated and analyzed the direct costs of the secondary school operation at o big size public school, in the Federal District. After that we calculated how much the some school would cost after its reform adaptation, according to minimum patterns of quality. Reducing the mean activities, the cost of the reformed school would be smaller than the one that there is now. We should consider, however, that the institution has material resources and staff, what is difficult to find in many Brazilian schools, and the estimation of the costs related to the reorganized school, as they are operational costs, they don't include the ones related to the reform, equipment and teacher training.
