Resumen

LOPES, Aldo Peres Campos e. CRITICAL MEANINGFUL LEARNING IN MATHEMATICAL MODELING ACTIVITIES: POSSIBILITIES AND CHALLENGES. Práx. Educ. [online]. 2023, vol.19, n.50, e12287.  Epub 17-Mayo-2024. ISSN 2178-2679.  https://doi.org/10.22481/praxisedu.v19i50.e12287.

Higher education math courses can be challenging for some students. Therefore, it is important to strive for learning that is both meaningful and critical. One possibility is the use of mathematical modeling. Our research aims to investigate critical meaningful learning in mathematical modeling activities. Engineering students produced models involving differential equations. We investigate possibilities and challenges for critically meaningful learning in this modeling context. We note that modeling contributes to several principles of critical meaningful learning, such as detaching from the textbook and the board. We conclude with some thoughts on modeling and critical meaningful learning.

Palabras clave : mathematical modelling; higher education; meaningful learning; differential equations.
