There is today a growing preoccupation with the rising of violence in Bahia, which indicates the need to scientific inquiries which may contribute to counter this phenomenon more efficiently. Using as locus the micro region of Senhor do Bonfim, we conduct a pilot study trying to understand better phenomenons linked to violence and the role of formal education in the discourses of the subjects of the research through identification, analysis and interpretation of social representations present in the narratives of specific social groups. We used a methodology inspired by ethnographic research. We aimed to contribute to evaluate planning and actions against violence, taking into account especially the role of differentiated educational practices. Identification and analysis of these social representations enabled us to know norms, stereotypes and prejudices which are the base of the analysed discourses. We believe that this way it will be possible to better understand and fight violence. We tried do contribute to new ways of fighting violence within the contexts of the micro regions.
