This article, derived from an empirical research within Basic Education schools in Brazil, aims to reveal the tensions lived by Pentecostal teachers in teaching African History and Culture, determined by Law n.º 10.639/2002), because of their religion convictions. The quantitative-qualitative methodology included Lucien Goldmann’s and Paulo Freire’s theorical categories, and the procedures developed, beyond bibliographical research (primary and secondary), included survey and semistructured interviews about culture and learning possible tensions in the teaching of Afro-Brazilian religiosity. The research identified prejudices in the teaching-learning process of Afro-Brazilian Culture, specially about the aspects of African-Brazilian religiosity, because the impositions of Pentecostal morality.
