This article is about an institutional evaluation process in a Brazilian private university which focus the ideology existed in the evaluation discourse, emphasizing the important elements accomplished by participative and democratic evaluation, such as resistance and change. This report detaches the need for the academic community participation and emphasizes the qualitative aspects. The trajectory stimulated the creation of an Avaliation Center with the purpose to develop many evaluation projects and to merge the knowledge required by these projects. The difficulty of obtaining financial investment associated with the fact that people are afraid to loose their position/function at the university, made the continuation of this evaluation process more complex.
