The aim of the investigation was to find out if the choice of college careers by candidates to the entrance examination for selected biological careers reflect discriminatives conceptions against the professional role of women and to verify on which grounds rest these conceptions. Data was collected mainly by meansof a questionnaire answered by the candidates during the examination enrollment, in 1973. The responses of 10% of the candidates of both sexes were used in the stud. Further data was obtained from 100 pupils of both sexes registered in courses which prepare the candidates for the examination. Results indicated that the biological careers under study can be classified in masculine and feminine. They also showed that a progreessive feminization of some of these careers is taking place. It was not possible to confirm the hypothesis that the feminine careers have less social prestige and are less paid. However, it was observed a tendency in that direction. The sex variable and the socio-economic status of the candidates affected little their expectation of entering the careeers choosed and their motives for choosing them.
