The objective of this article is to discuss the school/work relationship, trying to point out to the difference between work education and technical training. The unrealistic legal proposal which intended to give a professional education to all students at the medium level ("senior high school") is also discussed. Up-to-date statistics are used to show the distortions between the law intentions and the actual democratization and professionalization at that school level. The most meaningful results refer to the inadequate geographic distribution of the schools, the inadequate choice of professional modalities, and the poor level of many professional courses. The students' expectations are not fullfilled and the work market is not since there is no diversification of the professional education at the medium level.
