The mass media offers undeniable advantages if used for educational purposes. Through mass media it is possible to reach a vast contingent of the population with resources of high technical and didatic levels, elaborated by a reduced number of specialists. However, good proposals and high technology, by themselves, do not guarantee good learning. Among other things, we should take into account the necessity of an interaction between students and classmates, and between students and teachers. We should also consider not only the different educational necessities concerning each group of students, but also the group's availability to study. This article aims to clarify the contradictions between the aims and the practical results of two supletive courses, broadcasted by the Brazilian TV between 1978 and 1984.
