FERRAZ, Maria Cristina Franco. Corpo, cérebro e memória na era da tecla save: brilho eterno de uma mente sem lembranças. Educ. Real. [online]. 2008, vol.33, n.01, pp.181-192. ISSN 0100-3143.

The film Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind (2004) offers a rich material for the discussion of the status of memory and forgetfulness in contemporary culture, characterized by the dissemination of new truths established by neuroscientifical researches and based on new imagery of the brain. In the film and in our culture two different conceptions of memory are confronted : the present tendency of reducing the phenomenon of memory to the brain and an interiorized, non reductionist approach, related to the “psy” field. This second approach can also be related to the conception of memory proposed in 1896 by Henri Bergson as well as to the Nietzschean valorization of forgetfulness, quoted and parodied in the film. In this context, it is urgent to rethink the complex phenomenon of memory and its links with certain paradoxes innherent to lived time, such as emphazised by Bergson and Kafka.

Palabras clave : Memory and Forgetfulness; Contemporary Culture; Time and Subjectivity.
