Abstract

LOUREIRO, Carlos Frederico Bernardo  and  COSTA, Samira Lima da. Environmental education, body and society: weaving relations. Educ. Rev. [online]. 2003, n.38, pp.173-192. ISSN 0102-4698.

In the last two decades environmental education has contributed to consolidate paradigms in education which encompass the debate on societal patterns that are inherent to the environmental perspective, as well as the debate on how we come to understand ourselves as beings of the nature. However, the different approaches that define Environmental education are noticeable for their limited analysis and understanding of the body dimension linked to the environment in historically defined contexts. The present paper aims at thinking critically about this matter. It argues that the revision of human relations with the natural environment is directly related to the perception of the self and of the ‘other’ in society and in the world. It also argues for an environmental educational that relates individual and collective spheres of social organization.
