Abstract

BONETI, Lindomar Wessler. O debate sobre as desigualdades e diferenças sociais na educação no Brasil: significados e contradições. Perspectiva [online]. 2013, vol.31, n.01, pp.261-282. ISSN 0102-5473.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the historical and social circumstances of the origin of the debate about inequality and social differences in education in Brazil. The main argument used is based on the assumption that the debate about inequality and social differences in education comes from two interrelated dynamics of the social world: the historical construction of the institutional framework of education (norms, rules and values), and new social processes that occurred in Brazilian history that fostered new purposes and meanings for the educational process, in which effectively lies the origin of the debate analyzed. The paper affirms that in the historical process of consolidating the dominant scientific thoughts of today, ingredients were released for the formation of the scientific concept, which originated especially in the natural sciences and were appropriated by the bourgeoisie as mechanisms of class distinction. Ingredients like the notion of scientism, evolution and homogeneity reflect the idea of “normality” and “civility” contained in education’s institutional framework. Thus, it affirms that although the institutionalization of education, whose parameter is the European bourgeois “civilizing model,” remained unchanged, new social processes, such as the different dynamics of economic, social and cultural boundaries delineated new purposes and meanings for education, from which the debate on the differences and social inequalities in education come from.
