Abstract

In this article, taking empirical research as reference to investigate public policies for adult learning, we present an analysis of the Portuguese case. Our purpose is to understand the process of transition from “Permanent Education” to socalled “Lifelong Learning”. We believe that the field of adult education, such as has been historically constructed in the second half of the 20th century, has changed its nature. Therefore it is no longer pertinent to face it as a global project of social change
