The paper presents a reflection about interuniversity collaboration in national and international networks and research groups in contemporary society, with emphasis on their value, their dilemmas and challenges posed to people and groups participating in it. The work stems from the assumption that Brazilian academic scenario requires the teacher researcher to adjust his/her personal interests to the collective ones of researchers and at the same time, to respond the requirements arising from the competitive model that guides the scientific production nowadays. Taking this into consideration, the paper tries to subsidize those interested in determining the collaborative research and the types of projects, contribute to organize the division of labor within the research teams, and perhaps encourage collective of researchers to undertake collaborative projects. The methodological reference of the research was the social network analysis, bibliographic studies and reflections on everyday research group practice within the university scientific production, including the experience from the author of this article into a collective that aimed to establish an inter-university network education research.
