The theoretical discussion carried out in the paper considers teacher education as a privileged guideline of the educational policies. The paper tells the history of the field of teacher education in the State of Pará after the Education Guidelines and Framework Law (LDB) with a special emphasis on teacher education for the initial grades of elementary school.
