Abstract

MOMO, Mariangela  and  MARTINEZ, Albertina Mitjáns. Forms of schools relate to the culture of media and consumption in contemporary times. Rev. Educ. Questão [online]. 2016, vol.54, n.40, pp.231-261. ISSN 1981-1802.  https://doi.org/10.5935/1981-1802.20160010.

This paper addresses the prevalence of the media and consumption culture in the life of a number of students and individuals that attend school in large cities in contemporary times. By considering the theory of creativity proposed by Mitjáns Martínez and studies on the media and consumption culture, such as those by Bauman, we carried out a research during the year 2015 aiming to interpret the main ways that four public schools in the Federal District have related with media and consumption culture. From the use of informations produced in the schools by means of interviews, observations, photographs and documental analysis, we found three prevalent ways: incorporation and/or reproduction of the media and consumption culture; its normatization and/or prohibition; and creative ways to deal with it. We have concluded that, somehow, the schools need to cope with that culture, which has shown to be inevitable, and that creativity in the pedagogical work is a possible and necessary alternative in relation to that culture.
