VIANNA, Heraldo Marelim. Avaliação de cursos pelos alunos: considerações. Est. Aval. Educ. [online]. 2004, n.29, pp.137-148. ISSN 0103-6831.

Abstract This article attempts to discuss the dimensions involved in the process of evaluating university courses by their own students. First, it reports on some of the author’s experiments aiming to illustrate one of his theses, namely that evaluation produces knowledge which is fundamental for the institution’s planning and actions. It  then tries to highlight - and considers indispensable - the teacher/student interaction in directing the learning process. It also emphasizes that course evaluation, when well conducted, reflects the impact the educational process has by means of the way students qua evaluators think and act.  Some of the teacher’s characteristics, especially those related to his performance in the classroom and to advising students, are discussed at length. Finally, the text considers the integration of the teacher’s self-evaluation and the evaluation of the various teachers in the department as essential to appreciate the quality of a course.

Palabras clave : Institutional Evaluation; Course Evaluation; Teacher - Student Interaction; Self-Evaluation; Peer Evaluation.
