Abstract

BARRETO, Silvio Sanches  and  PENA, Rosiane Lana. The lunar triad among Eastern Tukanoan women. Rev. Estud. Fem. [online]. 2023, vol.31, n.3, e95359.  Epub Sep 01, 2023. ISSN 1806-9584.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1806-9584-2023v31n395359.

The article makes reference to the knowledge of the authors’ maternal grandmothers on the lunar triad and menstruation, on the transforming power of menstrual blood in the garden, and on the relationship between women and the gray ant (osokãti). The lunar triad is a principle used by women to define types of marriage; the narrative about menarche and the garden reveals practices of care that the girl must take during her first menstruation; and the association of the Tukano women with the gray ant, indicates the training of a skilled and hard-working woman. The research is based on a methodology of “listening to maternal grandmothers’ knowledge” that allows the understanding of relationships among first menstruation, advice and marriage.

Keywords : Lunar Triad; Advice; Menarche; Tukano; Marriage.
