There is an increasing concern about the internal dynamics of educational institutions. Furthermore, institutional evaluation and self-government debates present some questions that are also focused by institutional analysis. First, the work describes different institutional analysis approaches in order to evaluate their potential contribution to develop research on management of educational institutions. Later, we discuss the results of a new analysis approach of the interviews holded with participants of the administration staff of a particular university. Finally, we present the first results of a new research about the potentialities and limits of the different institutional analysis approaches as a whale.
