In order to study the psychosocial repercussions in the implementation of irrigation projects (IP) in the São Francisco Valley through CODEVASF, three projects were compared according its time of existence and its levels of economic achievement. After a exploratory study the projects were evaluated by its members in many areas from work activity to familiar life. Besides were collected the criteria to consider a IP well-succeed bad-succeed and social participation. The results pointed out more change to both the IP's at a more time of implementation, despite that the more well-succeed economically showed traditional attitudes regarding goals of production (survivence), ownership of land (good in itself), relationship with enterprise (ambivalent) and use of technology (ancient). In evaluating the IP, the farmers stressed practical and quality of life aspects in contrast to that of productivity adopted by CODEVASF. Finally, we observed less interest in social participation of the three groups beyond the project in itself.
