Resumen

WERNECK, Vera Rudge. A velha e a nova questão de avaliação. Ensaio: aval. pol. públ. educ. [online]. 1996, vol.04, n.13, pp.371-380. ISSN 0104-4036.

The old and new question on appraisal. The text points out that the matter on appraisal is long-dated. Yet, men are now reflecting on such question more systematically. Appraising can only be done in regard to the concept of value. Value is what somehow can meet a certain human need. The appraising approach analyses the value of something related to some human wish. The question of appraisal cannot, therefore, be defined in the light of mere techniques without taking into account philosophical grounds. Appraising should be based on human nature as both the "self-being" and "personality". Also, it focuses on the appraisal in the education field. Considering education as a process leading to an adequate understanding and hierarchy of values by means of sensibility to both the material and non material values, the text concludes that appraising should ponder over the two instances. It should approach the performance of sensibility, intelligence, and will of the mankind. Finally, it brings out the difference between appraising and measuring.
