This article reports on an experience carried out at the Universidade de Caxias do Sul (UCS), at postgraduate level in a Diploma course in Social Gerontology, which has the objective of preparing human resources to work with elderly people, focusing on course conception and implementation and on the pedagogical proposal and its development. The approach related to course conception presents: its origin, objectives definition, covered areas, structure and functioning. The pedagogical proposal is approached through its theoretical bases, working mode, and evaluation. It provides evidence of a theoretical-practical proposition implemented in a practical application task and in a monographic work, which constitutes for each student an opportunity to apply the knowledge acquired, re-elaborated and constructed over the course period and on opportunity to enlarge the theoretical dimension of old age related issues. Results point out the high significance of the course, considering the emergent need of individual preparation in order to conquer a successful aging as well as the graduation of human resources prepared to work with the elderly people.
