The purpose of this paper was to evaluate the quality of the evaluation form used by the Federal University of Piauí, specifically used in the Educational Science Center (ESC) to measure the academic teachers' performance in the classroom. To make this research, the population was composed by th803 evaluation forms answered by the ESC students, in 1996, in which 30 teachers were evaluated. This research, of quantitative and qualitative nature, demonstrated, by statistics analysis, that the teachers' evaluation form attends its purposes. Through the analysis of the students' speech we can have a profile of the teacher that present’s academic performance in the classroom, accordingly to the students' perception. The quantitative data were typed using the SOFTWARE SPSS FOR WINDOWS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences), 7.5 version. The qualitative nature data were analyzed in a phenomenological- hermeneutic theory to get the different points of view of the students and teachers. In the conclusions we tried to establish, from the analysis done, references that could be used to direct the discussions about the purpose and importance of this form of evaluation as a valuable instrument that will help the improvement of the university in Piauí.
