Abstract
BUENO, Belmira Oliveira and ENGE, Janine Schultz. Teaching Profession and Labour market: motivations and dilemmas in the professional choice. Ensaio: aval. pol. públ. educ. [online]. 2004, vol.12, n.44, pp.789-809. ISSN 0104-4036.
The paper deals with the issue of the professional choice and its relations with the labour market. It has a double focus: the initial experiences of teachers formed by the University of São Paulo (1994- I 995) and the transition from the university to the labour market. Research data were collected through two questionnaires and fourteen semistructured interviews. The construction of the theoretical framework starts from the Bohoslavsky' works (1983, 1987) and the sociological theory of Bourdieu (1990, 1992, 1994, 2001). The analysis approaches the choice of undergraduate courses and the influencies the students receive from the family and schooling. It also discusses the teacher education of USP and the students low motivation for its courses for teachers' training. At the heart of the article is the theme of work: the motivotions and dilemmas faced by the teachers along their first years after the undergraduation course vis-à-vis the influencies from the labour market, that appears as the main factor of decision in their professional career.
