ISSN 0104-7043.

This research paper aimed to understand the trajectories of six Geography teachers who lived in the city and worked in the countryside. Through their narratives, we tried to comprehend the meanings they gave to teaching and to rural schools. Our study was based on the epistemological principles of the qualitative research and on the (auto) biographical approach. Its emphasis was on the teachers narratives. Our research instruments were: the narratives and observation that have been analyzed according to the hermeneutical principles (RICCOUER, 1976), on the interpretative-comprehensive perspective, and on Schütze´s contributions (1987) on the analysis of narratives. Through our analysis we identified important questions that led us to problematize the teaching of Geography in rural contexts. This is due to our attempt to understand the teachers´ trajectories, the implications of their ways of life-formation-profession in their identities and teaching, the work conditions that they face every day. Our data indicated that the geographical displacement (citycountryside- city) of the teachers was like a space and time that has had a great influence on their profession. In other words, an everyday “ritualization” which gave elements for the construction of the teacher identity with direct implications for the profession, what revealed ways of teaching in the contemporary times. In this crossing teaching, the teachers reconstruct themselves as persons and teachers, they think/ redesign their practices and professional projects through particular tactics mainly from their everyday paths in so diverse and unique rural contexts.
