Abstract

CUNHA, Daisy Moreira  and  ALVES, Wanderson Ferreira. How education draws on human knowledge to continue life's work: education, work, and health in some fundamental experiences. Revista da FAEEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2015, vol.24, n.43, pp.37-48. ISSN 0104-7043.  https://doi.org/10.2015/jan.jun.v24n43.004.

This paper addresses some significant formulations linking work and training that were developed in Italy, France and Brazil and concern issues related to workers' health. It presents and discusses some initiatives, undertaken in different locales and at various moments, which strengthened - and continue to strengthen - the notion of man and woman as political subjects. What's distinctive about these initiatives - and a common thread that binds them - is the fact that they prioritize workers, their work, and their knowledge. This is a theoretical text that draws upon contributions from different spheres of knowledge, such as studies in the areas of workers' health, education, and philosophy. Emphasis is placed on the fact that while popular education departs from the premise that workers are understood to be the subjects of the processes in which they're inserted, the same is not true when discussing work in the context of wage relations or health and illness issues in the work environment. However, there exist perspectives that offer alternative insights regarding the issues and allow for the creation of counter-hegemonic practices.
