This article aims to investigate the contributions and limitations of Distance Education from a continuing education course via the virtual Moodle learning environment. It is the cut of a qualitative research in which the discursive textual analysis was used to interpret the collected data. The course was offered for approximately three months and the students were active teachers in the subject of Mathematics. The research used Distance Education to bring the students closer to the pedagogical alternative of Mathematical Modeling in the teaching and learning processes of Mathematics. Activities were carried out with the students, who should post them resolved and propose others, in a collaborative way, for application in the classroom. Data were collected through the written records of the course participants in the forum, chat and memorial tools that registered the training process of the course participants in the continuing education course. Through the qualitative research procedures, the analysis of the results indicates that the existing limitations in the use of Distance Education are of a utilitarian nature and that they can be overcome through training for the use of Moodle, being the relevant contributions for the continuing education of teachers.
