In the article in question, we analyzed the management of historian Maria Yedda Leite Linhares at the municipal education department of Rio de Janeiro. Chosen by Vice-Governor Darcy Ribeiro and appointed Mayor Jamil Haddad in March 1983, the pedagogical practices developed during her administration represented a process of rupture with the educational policy installed by previous governments. Our study highlights the specificities of the period in which he administered the municipal education portfolio, highlighting the training of his team, the reorganization of the literacy guidelines and the demands presented by Federação da Associação dos Moradores Estado do Rio de Janeiro (FAMERJ) to the political group that commanded Rio de Janeiro, to which, Maria Yedda integrated. The theoretical and documentary focus highlights the political situation inherited at that time and the senses and meanings that will demarcate Darcy Ribeiro's educational thought and Brizolist political actions.
