The author makes a brief survey of research that has been made regarding education in Portugal relating it to some institutions or groups of researchers who, in different areas, have dedicated themselves to the theme. It a/so mentions some Portuguese files since this information could be useful to Brazilian researchers or research that has been jointly carried out. The author then outlines a brief history of reading education in Portugal with pedagogical books, raises issues that could cross this history with Brazil's because of similarities and differences.
