Abstract

KRAMER, Sonia. Teachers' reading and writing experiences: research and teacher education. Rev. Bras. Educ. [online]. 1998, n.07, pp.19-41. ISSN 1413-2478.

The text is based on the research "Culture, modernity and language: teachers' reading and writing experiences studied in their life and formative history". Interviews were held with teachers that had worked in public schools since 1920 and, based on a critical theory of culture, this research raises many issues concerning teacher education. There is a strong sign of the formative dimension of the interviews (carefully thought of and planned during field work) and of the formative dimension of the reports (seen in the manner in which the group wrote). An incipient alternative strategy for teacher training which establishes a link between theories of reading and writing and practice experienced in these skills is evident here.
