This work presents the assessment of Reading Comprehension (CL) , General Knowledge (CG), Deductive Reasoning (RLD), Abstract Reasoning (RA), Spatial Reasoning (RE), and Moral Judgment OM) in 720 freshmen students from Medical, Dentistry, Administration and Psychology schools, 66% aged from 18 to 21 and 66% females. The factor analysis indicated three factors: (a) pre conventional and conventional moral judgment, (b) crystallized intelligence (CL, CG, RLD and post conventional moral judgment), (c) fluid intelligence (RA, RE and RLD). Results shows that students from courses, which impose higher level of competition to get in, demonstrated higher scores on CL, CG, RLD, RE. Also it was observed significant gender differences. Finally it was observed significant correlations between all tests and academic achievement. The importance of longitudinal studies was discussed because it could provide a more valid indicator of college impact on students abilities than the final product assessment that is method currently being used by the Brazilian National College Examination (ENC). Instead, the ENC could be reflecting student ability differences that already exist before they get in to the college.
