The text presents convergencies and divergencies in relation to Brazilian higher education from the vantage point of the debate which has occurred in the country since mid 19805. The text presents an interpretive systematization of the analysis made by different representative higher education organizations about the creation of SINAES - the new system of Brazilian evaluation of higher education, proposed by a Special Evaluation Comission, created by the Ministry of Education, in September 2003.
