The present work introduces a discussion about the importance of assessing the social relevance of a given Higher Education Institution. We consider the assessment of social relevance to of complementary and interdependent of the processes of quality valuation. The assessment of Social pertinence allows the reformulation of goals and aims of a relevant institution to satisfy expectations of internal members as well as external social actors. It is not enough that the internal actors have great knowledge of their organization, if the external actors of society do not share in this knowledge, so they may express their expectations towards the institution. As a main outcome, a potential scientific approach to evaluate the social relevance of a given institution is presented, taking into account information both from people that do and do not belong to the Institution and using a method that can be applied to any other educational institution that wishes 10 establish its relevance.
