Abstract

CUSTODIO, Glauber César Cruz; NUNES, Célia Maria Fernandes  and  PAIXAO, Jairo Antônio da. Performance of Physical Education teachers in prison schools: problematizing initial and continuing education. Educ. Puc. [online]. 2021, vol.26, e215153. ISSN 2318-0870.  https://doi.org/10.24220/2318-0870v26e2021a5153.

Studies on the pedagogical practice of school Physical Education have been a topic of interest in the educational area. This article presents the results of a research that aimed to identify and analyze the performance of Physical Education teachers in schools of prison units located in the Região dos Inconfidentes/MG. Through qualitative research, the semi-structured interview was used to collect the data. After collecting and analyzing the data, it was possible to identify that the initial training of teachers did not prepare them to work in prison education. To minimize the impacts, these teachers conduct research and studies autonomously and learn constantly in their daily practices, through trial, error and success. In their teaching activities, they are required to have knowledge of non-academic nature, such as knowledge related to communication skills, attention to what happens in the classroom, and flexibility in their actions. In addition, according to teachers’ reports, there is no specific continuing education courses in this field.
