The knowledge society and its global expansion does not constitute a futuristic promise but an existing “interactive reality” that has been accelerated, in part, by the transformations that information technologies have had and their impact on possible social interaction. For some time now, the use of digital media to communicate has accelerated, and, to develop distance teaching-learning processes. During the pandemic period information and communication technology have flooded the daily evolution of life, establishing new forms of relationship with knowledge, with the development of skills and attitudes according to the XXI century, increasingly validating virtualized educational processes. This text is composed of a first section where conceptual elements of a general nature on distance education are delivered, characterizing it and establishing its advantages and disadvantages; and a second, which analyzes the offer of Master’s programs in Education in Chile, the evolution of their enrollment, modality, accreditation, mentions, duration and demand, focusing on four programs of traditional Chilean universities, establishing the conditions and possibilities for the development of virtualized postgraduate programs from state institutions of higher education.
