This study aims to analyze the perception of preceptors about the educational processes to which they are inserted, regarding the recognition of their formative role in health. This is a cross-sectional, qualitative, descriptive study with exploratory data presentation, carried out through an online questionnaire and focus group, using the content analysis method and word cloud. It was evident that exercising preceptorship has a relevant role in the exchange of knowledge, individual and professional development and in the progress of scientific productions, however, precarious didactic training, lack of knowledge of the pedagogical projects of health courses, fragility in the dialogue between service and academy, in addition to the lack of financial and institutional incentives, causing discouragement to the preceptors and the need for the preceptor’s aggregation in the student’s training process. The preceptors’ perception pointed out strengths and weaknesses related to the teaching-learning process for health education, thus inducing the cultivation of methods, tools and instruments to be discussed and published among preceptors, undergraduates, professors, services and teaching institutions.
