Abstract

FAUNDEZ, Antonio. Paulo Freire e sua influência na América Latina e na África. Rev. Diálogo Educ. [online]. 2012, vol.12, n.36, pp.599-617. ISSN 1981-416X.

The present paper is structured in two parts. In the first part, we outline a brief analysis of the Latin-American context favourable to the emergence, diffusion and acceptance of Paulo Freire’s work in the region, which started in the decade of 1960. Our analysis attempts to show the political and cultural obstacles specific to the African continent that prevent African’s mass adhesion to Freirean thought and practice. In the second part, we make some critical remarks on Freire’s educational work and, in a constructive spirit, we present ‘Pedagogy of the Text’ as a rupture - in continuity - regarding that work.

Keywords : Education; Politics; Monolingualism-Bilingualism; Monoculturalism-Multiculturalism; Pedagogy of the Text.
