This article aims to analyze the relationship between schooling and social inequalities, seeking to discuss the dilemmas that make up the social justice in mediations between school practices and social processes. Diagnoses after theoretical study, the main elements of the constitutive institutional program of schooling, its limits and its decline, and ends with the identification of three open questions for research in Sociology of Education: the new contours of school form; social justice and the confrontation of the internal contradictions of school; cultural recognition and the ability of such institutions to respond to the questions of our time.
