Abstract

MAGALHAES, Giovanna Modé. The privatization of education in the international scenario: thoughts on the Post 2015 agenda. Educ. Teoria Prática [online]. 2015, vol.25, n.50, pp.402-414. ISSN 1981-8106.  https://doi.org/10.2015/maio.ago.v25n50.402.

It is observed, in the contemporary scene, a remarkable growth of diverse and increasingly complex forms of privatization of public education. In the light of international human rights law, in particular the set of instruments that protect the human right to education, this article aims to discuss some of the expressions of this phenomenon in the international field and its consequent risks for the consolidation of educational public systems. The analysis will be performed from some reflections arising from the construction of the new education and development agenda Post 2015, an ongoing process that has taken place within the United Nations and aims at establishing new commitments and goals to be achieved by the Member States by the year 2030. Through the analisis of the preparatory drafts that will be the basis for these new agreements, the exercise indicates relevant disputes towards the conceptualization of the purpose of education.
